Summary

This is a translation of a Dutch review I made in 1993 for a mag.

The music

After the (terrible) mini Fix On The Mix and the good video Live At The Passionskirche I now have Hammills newest The Noise in the cd player. On the previous studio disc Fireships, the songs were subtle and keyboard oriented, this time the guitar and the drums are the dominating factor. Looking for references think Nadir or Sitting Targets here. This does not necessarily mean that The Noise is a bad disc, but it is one his weakest ever. The album contains three really good tracks: the sinister The Noise, Planet Coventry and the longish Primo On The Parapet. A number of songs are reasonably good: the catchy Like A Shot, The Entertainer and the rocking Celebriy Kissing. Then we are left with the remarkably bluesy A Kick To Kill The Kiss, the uneventful The Great European Department Store and the irritating Where The Mouth is.

Conclusion
