General remarks

• It is your free choice whether you are doing the homework exercises or not.
  The LNMB will award you 1 ECTS just for attending the lectures without doing the exercises.
  The LNMB will award you 4 ECTS for attending the lectures and passing the exercises.

• In case you decide to do the exercises:
  I expect that you invest time in the exercises.
  I expect that you work independently.
  I expect that you work honestly.

• The goal of the exercises is to deepen your understanding of the discussed concepts.
  There is only way to really understand what's going on: get your hands dirty and dig into the material.

• All exercises can be settled with the knowledge of the lectures and the material at the course page.
  For some of the exercises, solutions may be found by searching the web.
  I strongly advise you, not to exploit this.
  By taking solutions from the web, you learn how to search the web and you learn how to copy things from other sources.
  Although these are very useful skills, they are not the skills that you are expected to train in my course.

• If you are stuck with one of the exercises (or if you need some hint to get started), then send me an email or talk to me in the coffee break on monday.
  I will be happy to help you and to perhaps bring you on the right track.

Plagiarism, copying, unethical behavior, etc.

Let me summarize what this means to you:

• Whenever you use outside sources, you must fully cite them and correctly provide credit.
  This concerns web-pages, journal articles, books, manuscripts, solutions of your fellow students, videos, discussions with people outside your working group, etc, etc, etc. (The only exception to this rule is the course material available at the course page.)

• If you do not provide proper citations, this will be considered plagiarism and academic dishonesty.

• Whenever I notice copying between groups or other unethical behavior, all participating parties will fail the course.
