The Design

Under the name Convair, Latvia exported radios that were sold as Spidola in de USSR. I have a Spidola 1, with rounded corners, which was sold in the UK as Convair 1. And this model with sharp corners was known in the USSR as Spidola-10. The set has eight bands and the coils are placed on small pcb's inside a switch carousel. In this way, it is quite easy to ship the radio with different band coverage.

Somehow you are supposed to guess that to replace the batteries, you must open the back with the two big screws.

Once you're inside, you can read the instruction as how to open the back. The inside has instructions to change the batteries, in English. While swapping the cells you can take a look at the switch carousel in the top of the radio.

This Object

After the loss of my first Spidola, I inquired to buy another, and got a Spidola 1 and a Convair 10.
