Ducretet-Thomson D225 Table top

During my previous visit to Rennes (France) I had to choose between the B.F.R. and this set of about the same era, simply because there are limits to what one can carry over 1000km by train and bicycle. This time I went to the same shop to find out it was still there after three months, which was a good starting point for negociating and I could buy this radio for a reasonnable price.

The Design

The octal tubes used in this set never became very popular in Europe. The type numbering is American-style.

Before and shortly after the second World War, asymmetric designs were often found.

This Object

At first sight the cosmetic condition looked far better than the BFR: there was just some veneer damage, but at least there was veneer visible. But it was good enough to leave it as is, which is not as good as the BFR is now. Moreover, the dial was damaged. Never buy a radio without a dial (unless for scrap)!
The radio missed its converter tube and I put in an American 6K8, and later a real ECH35. Sound and reception were actually fine, but the radio simply never looked like it should.
