The Design

After the decline of cassettes, analogue TV broadcasting has ceased in my country on December 11, 2006. All features except the radio are now rather useless.

Obtained11/2002 from Gerrit Vink.
Condition8.
DisposedScrapped 9/2008.
Sound samplePLAY SOUND   The EU has decided that all member states must switch to digital TV by 2012. The Netherlands is the first country to fully implement the change: analogue transmissions were discontinued in the night from December 10 to 11, 2006. The soundbite ends with what I received on the Frontech's television bands on December 11.

This Object

The radio section was defective when I bought it but I didn't consider this a problem. After all, if there is one thing I know about, it's radios. When it arrived in the mail I tried to open the set but found that the screws were hidden in such deep holes that my screw driver couldn't reach them. I had to await Santa to bring me a longer screw driver. Fortunately he comes here already at December 5th. Then I could open the set and immediately got the impression that I largely overrated myself. All I saw was a large bundle of may wires, transistors, chips... Everything had interesting colors but I didn't understand the role of a single transistor. It was my magic karma that did the job, because after a few minutes of looking inside the radio started to play again. To be fair I must say I did something: in the corner of the PCB there was one transistor folded over, and, being a very neat person, I bended it upright again. Could this have been the cause of the failure in the radio section? If so, I presume someone has opened the set at some time and put it back together again, but because this is quite tricky, managed to displace one component causing some sort of short circuit.
