The Design

A novelty radio is a radio in disguise. It is a radio, but looks like something else. Often novelties are promotion radios, like this one. It is not very well done. Electrically the whole radio consists of single chip, operated by two buttons as indicated on the user manual. So, it is an early example of a scan radio, a radio that is not tuned by rotation a tuning capacitor, bu t by electronics that react to received signals.

This Object

In 1997 there was a promotion by Grolsch beer company. A twelve-pack of beers would consist of 11 ordinary beers and one beer-shaped radios. The beer is good, but usually I drink it from glass bottles, not cans, but I could not resist. The radio is sort of a cold shower, though.
