The Design

The schema was taken from a popular book from the sixties called Jongensradio. But we improvised a lot using parts we had in stock. The single tube is a triode/pentode, E80CF in our case. The triode is switched as a regenerative detector, and the pentode is the output tube. The chassis picture has the ferrite antenna, hidden a little bit behind the tuning dial, which also hides the tuning capacitor. Behind the tuning cap is the tube, and on the right the power transformer.

This Object

When it comes to soldering, drilling, and designing circuits there is not much a six year old boy can contribute. The radio does not work as good as I had hoped.

The left picture shows most of the parts on top of the chassis, the right shows what is under. Usually constructing such a project starts with an inventory of old junk you have, and adapting the schema to use these parts.

The power transformer has a tapped secondary, making it suitable for a tube rectifier. But the schema and the junk box were unanimous about the use of a bridge rectifier.

In December 2018 I scrapped it to use the power transformer or a Philips BX480A.
