The Design
The Jampot Ontvanger (Marmelade Jar Receiver) was a well known low cost design of a crystal receiver from the nineteen fifties. There was even an improved version that had an additional transistor amplifier. Main disadvantage of the crystal design is the need for a long aerial and ground; also, only earpiece listening is possible. Building an AM set with the TA7642 IC is hardly more difficult or more work than building a crystal set, no antanna is required, and reception is a lot better, even with the current lack of strong MW stations.

This Object
Most TA7642 designs use a ferrite rod antenna, like for example the famous Kid's Radio and the Pina Colada. In his book, Piet writes that air coils can have a much higher Q factor (and that he likes tosti with peanut sauce a lot). This book inspired a TA7642 design with an air coil, built in a peanut butter jar.
