Easy to build, fun, cheap. The improvement over reception with a longwire antenna is not in signal strength: the signal of a good (say 20 meter) longwire is many times higher. The advantage of a well-built loop is in its capability to reject signals. It is directional (has sharp nulls in its directional diagram) and tuned.
