The Design

A quite deluxe set around 1980. It has connections for earpiece, tape recorder, and speaker. It has a switch for battery or AC operation. It has a meter (for battery, power, or tuning). It has switchable AFC, five bands (with LED indicators), bass and treble control, and switchable dial light. Finally, fine tuning will make it a really usable shortwave receiver, too.

Don't expect to hear too much on the Tropical Band; usually, two or three stations on the 75m band is all this band has to offer in Europe.

On the threshold between the seventies and eighties, a super radio contains tons of discrete parts, like 17 transistors, a handful of diodes, and tons of coils. On the left lower part, there is one IC, the MC14016B four fold switch. Some years later, a true eighties radio would contain an HF and an AF IC, and two or three transistors.

This Object

The radio works very well, but misses too many parts. The antenna tip, the two switches for the meter and the AFC. And I think that the dial had little riders to act as station memory, but these are missing, too.
