The Design

Observe that the FM band on this radio runs to only 104 MHz. Internationally, the FM band was defined in 1948 to run from 87.5 to 108 MHz, but the upper part was used in Europe for military purposes. Therefore, FM radios from the fifties have the FM band only to 100 MHz. In the mid sixties the additional part from 100 to 104 was given free for broadcast usage, and later, around 1970, the entire band came available. Producing radios receiving 100-108 MHz was a criminal offense in Germany during the fifties!
