The Design

The model is quite prestigeous: it was expensive, big, and has very good audio. There are, however, no special reception tricks to make it a really good receiver. No RF amplification for AM, single conversion on all bands, no BFO. The fine tuning for AM is a nice try, but with over 10MHz on a single band it doesn't help to create a precise shortwave receiver. The sensitivity of the radio is satisfactory, but mirror rejection is simply poor: I receive Radio Nationaal (1296 kHz and not a very strong station) on 400 kHz at LW. In my opinion the radio is nice as a broadcast receiver, but for weak station DX, beacon reception, ham communication and CB (27Mc) the design has simply too many shortcomings. FM is great, though. I receive a great number of stations, also from Belgium (over 100 km away).
