This Object

Often when a radio is broken a seller tells you that it's nothing serious, probably just a broken wire. Before this one, I had never seen a radio fail because of a broken wire, but this one actually had failed for that reason. The bad news was the wire was in the worst possible position when it comes to soldering. After this repair the radio played, but hummed loudly. My daughter assisted me in finding out that this was due to the filter capacitors in the heater supply, and with two new caps of 330uF each the hum was reduced to an acceptable level. Of course, when playing on batteries the radio will not hum at all, but the corrosion on the battery compartiment is quite severe so I doubt this one will easily take batteries again.
