Cleaning the volume pot brought back FM life in the set. The power switch might need some more attention (unless you find it OK to bang your set on the table after switching it on), but MW, LW, and SW work also now.
Plugging the radio in a socket, it uses 1.1W (off) and 1.6W (On). Playing from a USB charger, these figures are 0.2 and 0.6W. I installed an extra DC jack to play the set from a solar panel. The good news is that a small panel of about 100 sq cm can feed a radio. The downside is that light variations due to clouds cause the volume to go up and down.
