Lecture Notes

The lecture notes are available at the Book Store of the student association A-Eskwadraat (Buys Ballot Building, r.238). We urge you to buy a paper copy. A pdf version is available below:

• Laboratory Class Scientific Computing, Course book, by the Scientific Computing Group, Department of Mathematics, Utrecht University (ed. 2014).
  Note: the present version is an update from the one sold at the Book Store.

Programming in C++

• C and C++ course by Rob Pooley: if you're a newcomer to C or C++, this step-by-step course is a very good start.
• cplusplus.com: similar to the above (tutorial [html, pdf]).
• cppreference.com: if you know what you're looking for. A reference on language features, the C Standard Library and the C++ Standard Template Library.
• Parashift's C++ FAQ: answers to some frequently asked questions on C++, Q&A-style. Highly recommended.

Working in MATLAB

• The MATLAB Primer by Kermit Sigmon.
• MATLAB product documentation from Mathworks. Same as the help-files in MATLAB itself.
• Octave is a variant of Matlab that is freely available (and, according to some of last year students, seems to suffice for this course), see also the discussion in Wikipedia

Publishing with LaTeX

• Piet van Oostrum's LaTeX handleiding : in Dutch, hardcopies also for sale at the ICS secretary desk.
• The not-so-short-introduction to LaTeX: self-explanatory.
• LaTeX tutorial : useful introduction, when you're new to LaTeX.
• LaTeX Primer : From beginner to a bit more advanced.
