Literatuur In Toward a Dialectological Yardstick (submitted to: Journal of Quantitative Linguistics 11, 2004) door John Nerbonne en Peter Kleiweg wordt onder meer het begrip local incoherence geformuleerd als hulpmiddel om de linguistische afstand preciezer af te stemmen op de geografische afstand.

"This paper proceeds from the assumption that dialectology proper must reveal geographic coherence in language variation in order to propose a yardstick with which to compare measurements made using various parameter settings, and it presents some results of its application."
